i've enjoyed the patch so far. makes defending much more challenging but much more rewarding if you are good at it, which is how it should be. the next weekend league should be fun against all of the Smalling and Bailly teams that relied on the AI to do the work for them

I have exclusively been using the 4-2-3-1 (2) for the past two FIFAs and have had some great success (many D1 titles and gold 1/elite 3 FUT champs). Once you get used to it, it can be very effective. I find that most of the time one of my CDMs will go up to attack and the other will stay back. The key to the formation is being able to play the ball out wide and stretch the other team out. Most people play very up-the-middle (especially the 4321 or 41212(2)) and I find that this formation is able to stretch the field without compromising players in the middle. It's also very good at stopping counter-attacks since at least one of the CDMs are normally back and the LM/RM track back very well with just default instructions. The CDMs are a little spaced apart but I think it makes it harder for other teams to play against it since they are not used to their positioning. I also manually take one of the CDMs and man-mark the CAM if i notice that the opponent is just playing through that player. Having 2 CDMs allows you to dominate the space right in front of your defensive line, which means you can stop the midfielders from playing loads of through balls (for the most part), which seems to be one of the few ways that people score. It is also good at stopping attacks on the wings since there are outside mids and outside backs very close together on defense. It's a really great formation to counter the 4321 IMO, on defence the CDMs  and LB/RB really lock down the "2" and the CBs can be left with the "1," and on offense the LM/RM (i set them on get in behind) really stretch out the field since they only have the LB/RB to beat. The 4231 (2) is very different from the regular 4231, I'd recommend switching, I cannot play with the 4231 at all

Sounds good. I've been using narrow formations and have had some success with them. However I'm now completely lost and no idea what to do as they don't work anymore since the patch with the increased pressure etc. I will give this a try now and see if I can make it work.  Thanks for the info.
What kind of style do you play? Quick, possession etc?
Also do you use any instructions on players?
I mostly try to get the ball to my CAM as fast as I can, and then my play goes from there. It's mostly counterattack but I switch up my play a lot depending on my opponent. It's very important to utilize the width and get down the wings so that the narrow formations are stretched out, but switching it up with playing through the middle is important too. On defense I try to pressure and win the ball back quickly, then if I can't I drop back and cut passing lanes manually with one of the cdms.
Custom tactics: speed 95, passing 50, organized, shooting 65, crossing 50, passing 65, Organized, pressure 70, aggression 60, width 50, cover
Instructions: ST stay central, get in behind; LM/RM get in behind, cut inside; everything else is default
The player types are very important for the formation to work. ST has to be fast and ideally strong/tall and really good at finishing (ex. Lukaku); CAM needs passing dribbling and especially shooting (ex. Eriksen); LM/RM pacey, good dribbling and passing; one cdm high/high with all around stats (ex. Vidal); other cdm med/high with high defense and strength (ex. Matic); Defenders don't have to be so selective, just pick your favorites
On another side note, try to get a GK with the "comes for crosses" trait, you'll notice the difference, it's a must for me
If you'd like to know anything else then let me know but that's all I can think of about this formation. Hope this helps
Ok thanks that's really helpful. One final thing I wondered, when you are out wide do you usually cross or pass into the box? My crossing is awful I need to learn how to 'git gud' at this!
I normally triple tap crosses, it's very effective. if the cross isn't on, I usually pass it to my cdm or lagging cam who should be just outside the box

    Hey Lads,

what do you think of investing in high rated player which might get or already are transfered? e.g. Draxler.

Since they wont be in packs after the transfer and are highly used in teams.

    Give me your opinion please

draxler's price is already really inflated because of the current sbc's, it's about 2k above the previous equilibrium price. That makes me believe that he won't go up once he's out of packs, at least not very much for a while. I'm not sure when he'll stop being in packs, if he gets down to maybe 3.5k before his transfer card is released then you might be able to get some coins, but the returns would take a while to come if they even come at all. I'd stay clear

apparently the person who won the FIFPro competition chose this team for the World XI:

    Neuer

Ramos - Pique - Thiago Silva - Marcelo

    Kroos - Iniesta - Modric

    Messi - Ronaldo - Neymar

Quote from the FIFPro Website: http://www.world11.com/news/winner-world-11-prediction-contest-announced-14271

"the only fan who correctly predicted all eleven players of the World 11"
    Twitter handle: @shazadshah96
He has deleted the tweet of his predictions but I was able to confirm his choices on Reddit (here). He claims that he made other predictions and just did not tweet them and that he did not leak the TOTY. He could have also been told to say this. Choose to believe it or not

If scripting/momentum is real, then how do you explain multiple people every weekend winning all 40 of their WL games?

Scripting doesn't mean a pre-determined outcome, just sliders being moved artificially in game which makes it harder. If the skill gap is there you win regardless.
so you admit if you are superior in skill then you'll win lol. Scripting is irrelevant then, it just "makes it harder" but if you're good enough you'll win. People should stop complaining about scripting and just get good enough
If you have not noticed fishy things happening, then you re probably the one who should get good enough..
I'm in d1 and I was on the top 100 leaderboards two weekends ago. I think I'm good enough
I'm glad to see that we can have a scripting discussion without just immediately attacking and insulting someone with an opposing view. Oh wait, you just did that to me...
All the scripting threads and discussions are so cancerous, no wonder they're always shut down
OH yes, and i apologize, but im DIV 1 aswell.. but really, you must have noticed random things happening out of your control. If the top players even mention these momentum, scaling, scripting bs.. Id love to believe these things arent in the game, but they clearly are. If you disagree then what can we discuss?
I don't think pros have the same definition as people on this thread. I agree there are changes in momentum, but it's very similar to a real football match and I think it's more player-caused than artificially caused. I know that when an opponent is one down and pressing hard I can panic and start giving the ball away a lot. Maybe my players are responding to the pressure but it's me as well, and this is similar to real life. Momentum can also go both ways, after I score a goal I can normally score another pretty quickly, which is probably a combination of the opponent frustrated that he conceded, me "in the zone" and playing well, and maybe just a bit of my players artificially performing at their peak. But this is still realistic. If the scripting that is argued here is real, then it wouldn't go both ways, it would only go to the losing team. EA have also said that emotions and frustration of the players affect the game, but that seems to have been lost and people forget about it. Like if a gk makes saves at the beginning they get confidence and play better, or if a striker misses a few chances them he'll get frustrated and it's harder to score. I think this is very realistic and still the players responsibility. I know if I miss a few chances (that are my fault, whether bad passes or bad shots) it makes it harder to score, and just as before I think it's just as much a mental thing as an artificial thing. If I keep my cool and focus really hard I'm always able to overcome and win. I believe that has been a turning point in my fifa ability, at first I would just get frustrated and mad. Now I keep my cool and focus no matter what happens and I win a lot more games
Soooo you just said that everytime you win its all because of you and what you did... Then 2 posts later you say this. Sounds convincing man... So which one is it? Is there outside influence in the game or not because you just said both sides of the argument in a matter of 3 posts.
I clearly stated that it's all player caused and what people think is scripting is actually their fault and the game is purely realistic with no outside influences. if you read the post you'd know. Once again everyone, the cancerous attacking mentality of the pro-scripting mob rears it's ugly head. I'm surprised this thread hasn't been closed, or even why we allow a scripting rant thread. And we wonder why these forums are dying out

Likely to go up or down?

he was cheapest this past sunday, he will likely go up until saturday and then drop a tiny bit on sunday after WL, but not much since he's out of packs. he might be a little cheaper the day before toty (two weekends from now) but it's hard to tell with this market

Ah the old 'git gud' argument. I think you misunderstand. Scripting is like being in a fight and having one arm tied behind your back. You may well be a good boxer and be fighting against someone who can't throw a punch but you're still being handicapped. Now, if you come up against someone who is at your level or better and you have to fight with one hand behind your back, what's going to happen? You're going to get a good hiding aren't you?
Those people who win 40 WL are the absolute minority of FIFA players, the 2% who are ridiculously skilled at the game and hence they can overcome the handicapping. For the other 98% of us, fighting with one hand behind your back becomes pretty tiring very quickly.
I don't misunderstand, I've played almost 500 matches and have found no evidence for the scripting you believe in, that the game makes you lose. when I really focus and try hard all the "scripting evidence" and bs seems to "disappear," it's just in the head. It's always up to me and my skill to determine the outcome of the game, if I lose (which is rarely) I know that I messed up
